Staples Merch Ops Manager in Lincolnshire, Illinois


Position Summary

Manage Merch Ops team driven, or aligned, projects/programs within the key online merchandising focus areas, including (but not limited to) product relationships; product recommendations; cross-category promo pages; and vendor programs. Lead Analytics for Merch Ops Team, including (but not limited to) pre- / post-analysis, content and product optimization recommendations, promotional inventory reporting, etc.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee departmental operations, ensuring key projects are completed on time

  • Manage workstreams/timeline/deliverables within Merch Ops team-driven, or aligned, projects/programs to support increased sales/margin, better customer experience, and/or key vendor commitments

  • Lead Analytics to find new opportunities for efficiencies & success for the Merch Ops & Merchandising teams

  • Troubleshooting high-impact inefficiencies through either process or system improvements that affect the Merchandising team

  • Utilizing data to provide recommendations on new opportunities worth pursuing/testing further

  • Coordinate with Web Specialists on action items requiring category-specific ownership, whether for projects, ongoing operations, or process development

  • Oversees responsibilities and performance of team.

  • Conduct full performance appraisals and coaching for direct reports.

  • Review and approve pay actions for indirect reports

  • Effectively, and independently, manage project/program workstreams, timeline, deliverables, and communications on updates to progress, delays, and issues/risks

  • Measurable positive impact to the selling opportunities facilitated and/or processes improved

  • Develop and/or maintain positive working relationships within Merchandising Dept and with cross-functional partners



  • 3+ years of experience leading projects with delegated tasks

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in eCommerce/Merchandising/Marketing


  • Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access

  • SQL-query capabilities strongly desired

  • SharePoint familiarity a plus

  • Proven process development a plus

  • Proven project management abilities and leadership/collaboration skills

  • Analytical skills - ability to produce, interpret, and make business recommendations/decisions from eCommerce data

  • Excellent written & verbal communication/interpersonal skills

  • Successful management of multiple projects in diverse areas of responsibilities that meets or exceeds all agreed-upon timelines & deadlines

  • Ability to prioritize and re-prioritize tasks based on fluctuating deadlines while continually meeting due dates and maintaining a positive attitude

  • Ability to work in a team or independently

  • Detail orientated with high degree of accuracy

  • Quickly pick up on new processes and systems used to execute common Merchandising operations
