Job Summary

The Sr. Manager of PR and Social Media will be responsible for leading a newly integrated function that drives brand awareness for Staples while supporting the company’s B2B sales efforts and seasonal initiatives for its Retail business and protecting the organization’s image through reputation management. They must possess deep knowledge of key audiences and issues in order to guide influencer prioritization and engagement. They will ensure that the company’s vision is articulated on all external facing media channels, both traditional and non-traditional, and bring innovative ideas and fresh perspective to campaign planning. They will lead and develop a team of communications professionals

Key JobResponsibilities

Impact on Business

  • Manageday-to-day management of an organization’s PR and Social functions

  • Help tocreate one voice for all social and PR content for Staples- help to unify voiceof organization throughdevelopment of relevant media campaigns that will assist in lead generation forStaples Business Advantage, Staples.com and Staples’ stores

  • Managethe selection and implementation of specific social media technologies

  • Overseethe selection of social media and PR agencies, and manage these criticalrelationships at a leadership level

  • Participatein development of crisis response plan and manage media during crisis

  • Develop acommunications strategy detailing key messages to use with external audiences

Innovation and Change

  • Reviewexisting social media and PR functions, add suggest/implement new capabilitiesto elevate program

  • Consultwith outside agencies and resources to keep program on cutting edge

  • Constantlyeducate yourself on latest changes to media landscape and resultingimplications on the Staples PR-Social program

Communication/Interactions

  • Partnership with senior leadership/all functions and BUs to ensure clearmessaging

  • Consultwith SMEs across business to ensure external facing content is developedaccurately and appropriately, well-representing the Staples brand

  • Externalpartnership with vendors

  • Varietyof social media outlets to maintain/monitor content, etc.

  • Coordinatewith PR and social agencies

  • Workclosely with internal communications team to ensure consistent messaging bothinternally and externally

People Leadership

  • 5 DirectReports

  • Train and develop junior members of team

  • Conductperformance reviews/coaching, etc

KPIs– Key PerformanceIndicators (i.e. how is success defined in this role?)

  • Year-over-year media impressions for seasonal PR campaigns

  • Positivesentiment media coverage

  • Sales ofrelated business units

  • Setrealistic parameters to measure engagement with social media channels

  • Partner with business units to develop additional, non-traditional KPI’s, likeleads generated, views of content driven etc.

Qualifications

Education/ExperienceEquivalent (minimum requirements)

  • Bachelorsin English, Communications or Journalism or other related field

ProfessionalKnowledge/Experience

  • 8-10+ Yearsof experience in Social, PR or Marketing related leadership roles, preferably in-house

  • Strategicand creative thinking

  • Experiencecreating and managing integrated campaigns including PR, social media andcontent

  • Experienceimplementing social media and PR campaigns in support of product launches,seasonal messages, and driving brand transformation

  • Crisiscommunications (both social and traditional) experience

  • Backgroundin B2B PR, including working with a field sales force, enabling them forsuccess

  • Abilityto design and continuously evolve a social media and PR strategy that growsStaples brand reputation, engagement, reach, audience and, as a result,conversion.

  • Proventrack record of educating and influencing business leaders on PR/social mediavalue, strategy and programs

  • Abilityto conceptualize social media and content that delivers B2B focusedhigh-performing programs to drive business objectives

  • Experienceplanning, implementing and analyzing paid social media activities

  • Experiencewith community building and engagement, social customer care

  • Experiencewith Social listening strategies and tools

  • Proventrack record working with influencers

  • Demonstratedability to collaborate vertically and horizontally throughout the organization

  • Abilityto handle and prioritize multiple projects/tasks in a fast-paced environment.
