Staples Principal Front End Software Engineer eComm in Framingham, Massachusetts


Position Summary:

Principal Front End Software Engineers eCommerce partner with both the business and technical teams to innovate and deliver new features and enhancements for the eCommerce platform. This position focuses on the design, development, and support of on-line, customer facing, eCommerce business solutions.

Principal Software Engineers eCommerce create and/or modify highly complex solutions that meet the expectations of stakeholders. This position may lead and coordinate resources on assigned projects. They have a thorough knowledge of web application systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Act in the capacity of an eCommerceapplication lead and software engineer to actively participate in thedefinition, design, development, testing, support and implementation ofsoftware functionalities

  • Estimate engineering effort, planimplementation, and rollout system changes

  • Ensure that technical solutions followbest practices, are reliable, are easily maintainable and are scalable undersustained load

  • Create and evolve applicationdocumentation as required

  • Work with engineers and other crossfunctional teams like Product Management, Project Management, ReleaseEngineering, Quality Assurance, Operations teams etc. to develop innovativesolutions that meet eCommerce market needs.

  • Mentor and guide junior team members

  • Identify project risks and workeffectively to mitigate them

  • Find and help fix stability/scalabilityissues in a very time critical environment

  • Support site rollouts and be available toresolve site issues

  • Develop industry and product technicalexpertise


Required Skills:

  • 5+ years of full software developmentlifecycle experience including the ability to perform independent analysis

  • 5+ years of experience developingapplications in web technologies (We use Node.js, React.js, Java, HTML5, CSS3,SASS, AJAX, JavaScript, Spring, jQuery, JSON, Tomcat and Websphere eCommerce,among others)

  • Strong problem solving and analyticalskills; ability to analyze complex technical problems

  • Excellent team player who can drive acollaborative environment

  • Strong time management and organizationskills

  • Ability to balance multiple priorities ata given time

  • Excellent verbal and writtencommunications, ability to establish effective working relationships with teammembers and cross functional teams

  • Self-driven, able to work independentlyor within a team setting

  • Results oriented and adaptable

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with MongoDB, Couchbase, React.js,Node.js, Java/J2EE

  • Experience developing API’s

  • Exposure to the fundamentals ofresponsive application design

  • Experience working with open sourcetechnologies

  • Exposure to Agile/Scrum methodology

  • Familiarity with Quality Assurancemethodologies

  • Exposure to working in a retail industry

  • Exposure to continuous integration

  • Experience working with 3rd partypartners

  • Experience working directly with non-ITbusiness partners
